Updating to 6 beware

When you download (at least with the trial version) you get a zip folder that contains FW and Showcase.

If you rename the FW app to Freeway Pro6.app (for example) then it will not try and replace your old version.

Similarly if you rename your old (5.5) version you get the same effect.

Thanks for that Dave. So simple when you know how.

Think I’ll resist upgrading for a while.

Hi guys,

I’d just like to clarify a few things before people get too concerned about upgrading:

  1. The issues raised only affect a very small number of existing sites. Freeway will always create a backup of sites created in older versions so your work will never be lost. If you do have any problems, please report them to support(a)softpress.com so we can get you a solution as soon as possible.

  2. Carla and TomP, please send a document you’re having problems with (the smaller the better) to us at support(a)softpress.com. Please provide as much information as possible (system information, where you’re saving to, etc.)

  3. meee, Freeway 6 is $59.99 to upgrade from 5.5, $109.99 from 5. Enter your serial number in this page and click the Upgrade button to see your price: Freeway Pro » Powerful web design software for Mac

  4. Lee, you’ve already been answered but for anyone else wondering the same thing: as Dave said, to run both 5.5 and 6 at the same time you need to rename 5.5 in your applications folder before installing 6. Don’t worry if you haven’t, you can always download the latest version of 5.5 here: Downloading Earlier Versions of Freeway and Companion Products - Version Information - Softpress Talk

  5. Remember, there is a trial you can use to try out your existing sites. A backup of your documents will be saved automatically when you open them in 6. It’s very unlikely that you’ll have any problems. If you do, they should be easily resolved by either updating Actions, or contacting us at support(a)softpress.com.

Thanks!

I just checked my Application folder and my old copy of FWP is labeled, “Freeway 5.5 Pro.app”, which apparently was assigned by the installer. Does that mean no renaming is necessary?

Raven, I have 5.5 and 6 running side by side and I didn’t rename anything, Justin is saying the same above (I think). I would imagine it would be the same for you.

Er, there is the obvious use of sub-folders to separate version types.

I am happy to report that I tried again to register upgrade and it worked… I have had a few crashes though. but I will update all actions before I open any site. I think that is the best thing to do.

Joe, where is the backup from my document after having opened an existing one in FW6?
How can I open this backup again in my previous FW version?

IIf I may respond, as I had to do the same
go to your freeway pro 5.5 application and open it
that one is labeled fw5.5
the new fw6 is labeled freeway pro
you can download again here

To add to this - oce in FW if you hold down the Alt key while in File then you can Open Backup

So Alt + File>Open Backup…
