upload problem

I made a page to replace an old page I had done on Pagemill. I just wanted to refer users to the new page with a new URL. I made the replacement with the same html name as the old page and tried an Upload from Freeway. It got to “items remaining” and then “comparing files” and seemed stuck. I went into Fetch, removed the old file and tried the upload again, but it did the same thing. I tried a fresh blank file; same thing. I finally loaded the new html file using Fetch and that worked, but the page can’t be modified by Freeway; I get stuck on “comparing” message as before.

Any ideas on how to get Freeway to do the upload?

Hi Dick

Often uploading problems with FW can be resolved by toggling the Passive mode on or off. If it is on try it off and vice versa. Different servers play differently.

File>Document Setup>Upload Passive FTP mode

Passive mode always need to be on for my site, so that does not solve the problem.

However, I think I have solved the problem. I made a test file and did the same steps as before and got the same result. But then I made a new test file and used a name that had been on the site (loaded from Fetch) but was removed some time ago. It new Freeway file uploaded fine.

I am guessing that when I remove an file using Fetch, there may be a lag time before it is actually removed. If true, Freeway won’t upload because it is not supposed to overwrite a file that was not uploaded from Freeway.

Sure it will! That’s normal FTP behaviour, and Freeway’s upload is
regular FTP - with the added goodness of hands-free file management.

Also, there’s no delay to what happens in FTP sessions. There can
be a delay in what you see in a browser IF there is some cacheing
going on somewhere between the web server itself and what your
browser shows.
