Uploading FW site to Expandrive with SFTP

If I connect to my server with Expandrive using SFTP and then publish my FW site to a File on that server instead of uploading it, is that really SFTP? Does that get around the fact that FW doesn’t upload with SFTP?

Yes. What you are doing essentially is making a secure tunnel and then
sending a file-copy through the tunnel. This should work perfectly
until the real thing comes along.

Interesting, that’s good to know.

One more question: when I choose to connect with SFTP in Expandrive, I enter my server, which is ftp.myinfo.com, not sftp.myinfo.com. Does that make a difference? Expandrive does say it’s connected with SFTP, and if I enter my server info as sftp.myinfo.com, it doesn’t connect at all.

I looked in my Cpanel to see if I needed to create an sftp account as opposed to an ftp account, but it doesn’t say anything about sftp, doesn’t give an option for anything but ftp.

In your example, ftp.myinfo.com is the hostname of a server, not the
protocol used to connect. This is a common conflation of concepts,
like seeing www as a hostname of a Web server, and confusing that with
the protocol http:// used to connect to that host. If you were to try
connecting to ftp://ftp.myinfo.com you might (if the server is
configured to offer a vanilla FTP connection) be given a challenge for
a username and password. On the other hand, if you were to connect to sftp://ftp.myinfo.com
, you would probably get the same challenge (only the authentication
tokens would travel over the wire in encrypted form).

I see, very good. Thank you, Walter. I like how this works.
