Version 3.0 beta 2 available

A new version of the 3.0 beta is now available. It includes several bug fixes and improvements, should work correctly on Panther (10.3.9) and includes a working upgrade mechanism for those with bundle licenses (unnecessary for those who bought Intaglio directly).

There is now an option to edit stroke width in millimeters and a new “collection” effect which allows a complex effects chain to be grouped.

As always, please report any problems with this (or any) version of Intaglio to: Intaglio (at sign) PurgatoryDesign.com

The beta version can be downloaded at: www.purgatorydesign.com/Intaglio/Prerelease

Are there some minor text issues - both present in v2 and 3.0b2?

I’m not sure if this is a bug or not, but if I get some decent sized text, click on the whole text object, and then in the Apple Text windoid turn the shadow on by clicking on the shadow icon… the shadow itself is OK but the control handles for the text all clump together at the bottom left of the text object. This makes it very difficult to select the text object again, also results in some weird screen redraw issues.

Also… I don’t think it’s a bug, but if I apply Intaglio’s own shadow feature - Window > Effects > Drop Shadow, and then zoom in, the text is now pixelated, as if it has been rendered as a bitmap at quite low resolution. Using the Apple text shadow is problematic, but is not pixelated in the same way.

Is there a way to maximise the quality of the blur and shadow effects?

Chris.

The shadow effect automatically defaults to low resolution, if you
have the option turned on. The eventual output is always high
resolution. This is simply a speed management feature in the software,
so it can run on older Mac’s.

There is a bug in Leopard that causes it to misreport the size of the bounding rectangle of a text block with a shadow as zero. That’s why Intaglio is drawing the handles in the wrong places. It also means the screen won’t update correctly.

The file format for 3.0 is looking pretty stable. Beta 2 added effect collections which won’t read in beta 1 but anything saved in beta 1 will read in beta 2. Unless some major bug appears that should continue through the final version of 3.0.
