This isn’t totally a freeway specific question but it is related. I run www.carrbridgenews.co.uk and through this we deliver a quarterly video news programme. Currently (the site is built in Freeway by the way) we use JW Player … which is a simple code which we put into the website where we want the player to be displayed.
However, we’ve had some issues with people not being able to access our videos… so are looking for a new video platform to deliver the episodes on. YouTube wouldn’t work as the episodes range from 15-30mins so it has to be something else.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! (ideally something as easy to implement as the JW Player is!)
I am very interested in your issue because I am currently in the initial testing stage of a website on which I will display customized videos for people who love horses and have stories to tell (the test site is www.myhorsemovie.com).
After I edit the video I save it as an uncompressed file and encode it for web using the newly-released Episode 6 software. I encode everything in h.264 and save all my movies as mp4 files. I find that these files play in almost any browser and platform.
So, I’m not using a Flash container and there is no customized skin on my video. The test file is very large (about 76 MB) but the data rate from the Episode encoding is such that it plays pretty well for any broadband connection – so far, anyway.
I’m wondering if you’ve been able to find out anything from the users who said they couldn’t access your videos (nice job, by the way – it makes me want to visit Carrbridge). One thing I’ve found is that there will always be a small number of people who can’t access a video.
BTW, I checked out Carrbridge Films – what a great concept! Congratulations.
