Hi Everyone I know its not the correct place to announce this but but its the area most freeway users go to first… if you were thinking about paying for a WebYep License soon then this will be of great interest.
It’s just been announced by OBDev the makers of WebYep CMS that the basic non White Label version is now free of charge provided you keep the WebYep logo
This is a copy of there official announcement…
Version 1.7.2 has been released - WebYep is now available for free!
From now on the standard version of WebYep is available for free.
You can use WebYep in any website free of charge, provided that you do not change the WebYep logo and product name (the logo is only displayed in edit mode - it’s not visible for visitors of your website).
IMPORTANT:
You need the new version 1.7.2 of WebYep on your server to use it for free!
This latest Free version of the actual WebYep System works perfectly with the Freeway/WebYep (3.1) action. There will shortly be an update from 3.1 to 3.2 of the actions Suite that allow users to exploit the extra functionality that this new core system has introduced. and as before this update will be free of charge to anyone who has paid for my action suite in the past.
This should make a lot of people happy… its a bit like a late christmas present… :o)
The support has already stopped with this announcement. Only the forum for help.

Again, until they come out and say they are EOLing this, here’s another possibility to consider: they want to have a lot of users (hence free) but they don’t want a corresponding rise in support calls (which costs them money). This is a mature product with a lot of experienced users, and they are leveraging that to gain market share.
When the other shoe drops, my guess is that will be the announcement of a quantum-leap improved product, and they will definitely charge for that.

Hi everyone
Just to reassure people… WebYep is NOT being shelved, retired or stopped and that came from the horses mouth. From what I can gather the WebYep system has got to the point where there are enough active users out there with a big enough knowledge base to make it more or less self supporting in terms of standard queries, and I know from my conversations with OBDev that this has always been true of the Freeway community. In fact because of the way Freeway works (which is: Freeway sorts out the HTML construction and CSS for the designer) It’s made WebYep/Freeway integration a very low maintenance marriage for OBDev. Which is great credit to both OBDev and Softpress.
The dropping of free support from OBDev is purely down to the amount of physical hours that was being devoted to what in reality was nothing to do with WebYep CMS but more to do with things like problems with incorrect HTML and good CSS application. WebYep has got a very good following and it has an enviable reputation as being one of the best CMS of it type out there, but with the increase in market share comes the ever increasing pressure on OBDev’s technical support.
So hence OBDev have felt that the time was right to change the way WebYep is:
a. priced
b. supported
I of course will carry on as before, giving as much technical support as I can and developing the system integration with Freeway. In reality I have so many ideas on what I can do to enhance the CMS with Freeway that I will probably never get to the end of my to do list. :o)
I hope I have assured people that this isn’t the end but the beginning of a new chapter.
So Walter from the conversation I have had with OBDev, you were spot on.
So, having just paid my £20 for the WebYep Freeway Action Suite, can someone tell me where I find the webyep-system folder?
Also, when trying to install WebYep on Freeway Pro 5.6.3 I’m getting an error message saying that I’m trying to install actions that will replace newer action in Freeway. Anyone know what this is about?
In going through the WebYep tutorial, they want me to insert a “WepYep 5 Menu” item. There is no such beast. There’s a 6- Menu as an Item action and a 7-Menu as an Insert action. Neither seems to work as they say it will. Can anyone explain this?
Thanks!
Paul
Hi Paul
Just reading through your problems and it sounds like the first one (about rying to install actions that will replace newer action) if thats correct then you must have had a set of webyep actions installed to be replaced? but looking through my records, the first time you bought and downloaded the actions were on the 19th of January, So unless you have tried to install them twice you shouldn’t have ha any actions to replace… so that is an odd one.
As for the menu number then its just a typo, The actions are constantly being added to and actions numbers are change to accommodate new actions but the WebYep menu has the same function.
The two different types are: one is a freestanding action and the other is if you want to convert a normal freeway html box into a WebYep Menu.
For the actions not working… this could be due to many things like how are you viewing the php page, have you added the init code to the page, is it hosted on a php server or are you viewing the page with MAMP. Unfortunately it will probably be due to something simple but I can’t see what you have constructed. so I cant give you any help with so little information.
I have gone through the quick start menu tutorial and set up, just to make sure there are no clangers but in reality those tutorial haven’t changed since 2006 so there shouldn’t be any real problems apart from the odd typo. If you could send me your freeway artwork then at I can see how you have constructed the page and the WebYep elements but without a little more info I wont be able to do very much
Hello guys, I am a little confused. I went to the link we can download it for free, but here at actions forge you go to a different link where you do have to pay $20 and it comes with a 70 pages manual: http://www.actionsforge.com/actions/view/62-webyep-action
So, what’s the difference between these versions?
On the other hand, on the free download link there are 3 options: One for Dreamweaver, the other one for Rapidweaver and the last one that says (WebYep — Plain System (English)
If you’re using neither Dreamweaver nor RapidWeaver, choose this “Plain” version. 1.7.2)
I suppose this is the one, but after downloading I realized it’s not a Freeway action? Its a script I have to upload to my server right?
I think I understand now… that the $20 one is the Freeway action and the other one the action suite I can download now for free, follow all the instructions and upload it to my server for the Freeway action to work. Is that correct?
