WebYep data - transfer from test domain to real domain

It is possible to set up a test site for Webyep driven pages, populate the pages with content that will be used within the final pages, and then move it to a live domain. You just have to observe the following:

If you have put the test site in it’s own directory, eg:
www.mydomain/test/index.php, then you will have to observer this path on the new site - eg:
www.newdomain/test/index.php

So… you need to think about the directory name when you are testing the pages, if this is relevant to any Search Engine Optimisation you may require.

What about my index page? Your index page will have to be moved to the web root level for the server to see it, and if this is WebYep populated, then you will have to redo it unfortunately.

If you move the index page within Freeway, all the normal navigation links will be updated for you.

Essentially, so long as the directory structure is maintained, you can copy the WebYep data folder over to the new WebYep system, and have the pages populated as on the old domain.

If I can work out how WebYep stores directory info within the data it uses, I may be able to get a method irrespective of directory structure. I’ll be looking at this soon I hope.

Hi Ian,
First of all, you will need to open the ‘documents’ file in the data folder and delete the directory ‘test’ after you have done all the WebYep input. Example: /test/image1 into /image1. That is the style of text you will see in that file ‘documents’. WebYep will then direct all the images and text you uploaded to the right php page.

But all the links you create in the WebYep text… yes… there you need to change the link names as well… I haven’t found an easier system yet.

What about uploading it into the root level and called it index2.php or no idex at all? I’ve done that once. Homepage needs to be corrected later and of course the first page will be for instance www.mydomain.index2php

Hop this helps. Any other tips around?

Paul

Hi paul
The really easy way though a client wont be able to check it as you are building is to create a php server on your desktop mac via the use of a program like MAMP
then what you are doing is creating a structure that mirrors the live site structure.

Great for local testing, and gets round the ‘alt-command-B’ surprise when doing php pages! For letting clients have a quick look though, I’ll set up a directory on an existing site where WebYep is plumbed in. Now I have a working method of transferring the data to another domain once the site is approved. Thanks again Paul.

Gotta love WebYep.

Indeed, MAMP is a great tool. Sometimes it just gives errors when loading the startpage. Fiddling around with the prefs or restart computer helps. Have no idea why that problem often occurs.
