WebYep

I have a php file located a few directories down from where WY is
installed. It’s a template that’s used to pull in a dynamic form.
I’ve tried to add the WY code manually in order to edit the static
content of the template but am unable to get it to work. Is it only
possible to edit files located within the same directory as the WY
app or am I overlooking something?

Hi Todd,

Assuming the WebYep code is correctly applied (hand coded) to your template, then you need a WebYep system in the main directory as your site.

If you’re working with MAMP, then you could either put a single WebYep system folder in the htdocs folder, then all your WebYep local sites in htdocs will share the data folder in this system.

Or you can add a WebYep system folder within each site folder (htdocs > site folder > webyep-system), then each data folder is different. Useful for testing various builds of WebYep for each folder.

Tip: If you’re wanting different passwords for a clients say a “sales department”, then adding a second separate WepYep folder to a folder called ‘sales’, and set a different username and password in config.php, pages within this folder then have a different password to the main webyep-system set in the parent folder.

Hi David,

I wasn’t sure if duplicating WY system-folders was recommended since
it means there are then multiple data folders to backup. I have other
nested folders/files (non-dynamic) which are fully editable with WY
so I’m wondering if the template and it’s dynamic content is in some
way conflicting with WY.

More puzzling though is the intermittent behavior of several pages
which fail to appear in edit mode though I’m able to log in without
problem while other pages are fine; it’s maddening because it comes
and goes which makes it very hard to troubleshoot. I created a single
login page in the root instead of adding a login button to each page
so perhaps that’s the problem though as I said everything was working
great prior to yesterday. Very bizarre.

The inability to enter edit mode seems to be caused by Safari
3.1.2. Perhaps a caching issue or something else, I don’t know.
Everything works as expected when using Camino, FF, Coda etc. so I’m
hoping it’s only Safari. I deleted Safari’s cookies and ran Onyx to
thoroughly flush the browsers but still edit mode is intermittent. If
it’s being caused by something else I don’t know what it is.

I do tend to have a hidden login on each page, in the same position. Then the user can edit and log out on the same page viewed.

You would only have a separate wepyep-system in a sub folder if you wanted more than one password on a site. Other than that there is no point, apart from testing locally on different webyep builds. or wanting your local data folder to be separate.

I must admit, I also find Safari 3.2.1 playing up more and more these days, especially when sending data back to the server. Firefox is much closer to full time use as a result.
