a form they have created works perfectly on a MAC in Firefox and Safari and on a PC in Firefox and IE6, but I’ve been told the form doesn’t work in Vista IE7.

I have no way of testing this as we only use Macs.

Darn Microsoft, just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water!!

If you are testing in IE6 you’ll have a Windows machine running around. You can install IE7 on that. There is an app for Windows out there which lets you have more than one version of IE installed on Windows at any time.

Microsoft is forcing the upgrade to IE7 as well through updates, so IE6 will soon be just an unpleasent memory.

The only worrying thing is if my form works in every other browser, and not in IE7, not sure how to change it to work in IE7, it’s just a simple form set-up, not even php.

Thanks Pete - that will be good for layouts etc. very useful. But in this instance it’s just the form not working in IE7 rather than any layout issue.

Right. For this, you will need an actual computer. You can try the
following, in order of convenience:

  1. BrowserCam http://browsercam.com Mucho expensivo service that
    allows you to remote into a real Windows computer at a data center
    and use it for a half hour at a stretch. The beauty of this is that
    they have dozens of different configurations of computers, and
    hundreds of machines. And someone else takes care of keeping them rot-
    free (by dint of erasing them weekly, I believe).
  2. Your neighborhood Internet Cafe. Usually this trade-off of having
    to get out of the office is balanced by the quality of the coffee and
    snacks.
  3. eBay for a cheap PC. And then a subscription to two or more virus
    scan services. And get a used Raptor firewall while you’re bidding.

I’m firmly in the BrowserCam camp myself. I didn’t pay full freight
for it, I joined a group purchase and paid 1/20th or so of the annual
fee. Every so often such a deal will pop up on a mailing list (in my
case, the Apple Web Dev list) and if you see one, jump on it.

I actually have a nice PC (oxymoron?) in the basement that a neighbor
gave me, including some fairly recent version of Windows. I’ve never
turned it on, and certainly wouldn’t connect it to my network,
because I’m so skeeved by the prospect of being taken over by bots
within the first 60 seconds, like the good folks at Cnet.
