I’m not unhappy with the apparent load time (for me). I applied the action
because the number of items has recently grown way past what the clients
estimated it would ever be. Because all my thumbs are actually full size
pass-thru (800 x 600) I of course grew nervous.

The window screen effect on the main wide image? That’s not photoshop
The main image is a background image that uses the background-size property
to scale with the browser window. I use elements in front to create a
“window” that has a patterned png to cover it. So the main image is free to
resize while the pattern remains the same
