Where do I start...?

Hi guys,
A new client of mine wants to add a “quick quote” calculator to their site. They are in the business of laser cutting metal. I am assuming that this would be a job for Javascript - anyone interested in producing it? - paid of course, unless you just want gratitude.

The variables would include things like, material, material thickness, which machine(which affects hourly rate), time on machine, perimeter of item being cut, total cutting length (holes etc), total items, etc…

I have the calculator they use for their quotes, but it’s a PC program - I don’t have a PC, so can’t even view it - and they want to strip some of the things out of it for the online version.

Then I assume I just insert it in the Freeway document via Markup item - handholding required at this point.

Thanks
Jonathan

Hi, a couple of options spring to mind:

1# Javascript could easily do this, you could set the calculator up on
the same page, user enters some data and the calculation appears for
them without the need to post the form.

This could be set up to auto calculate when the user enters the
relative information.

User needs to have javascript enabled for this option.

2# You could have the user enter the values and press calculate to
send the data to a php script that would send back the calculation
result when the page loads again.

User needs to send the form to process the information so the page
needs to be loaded again to see the results.

Now the difficult part is setting it up… if you do not know
javascript or php that is, although in saying that this is a simple
enough thing to do even if you haven’t done it before, it would be
just a matter of a little time, some patience and even better a simple
book on javascript or some basic php, you are not getting into
difficult areas of either of these languages for this.

Hope this helps
Mike
