The one and only time I ever tried this, I used Rackspace, and the hosting part worked just great. The ASP stuff – not so much. Avoid if possible. Here be dragons.

Hi Folks,
Just wondering if anyone can recommend a windows based host server. Its to support an asp.net database.
Googled and looked at a few but of course they all promise the earth and more.
Well I’ve had a look and their website is going at a snails pace, maybe an off day but not a good start. Eventually found something that might be what I’m looking for but not clear in any way, very confusing website. All prices I see are only for big corporations that have deep pockets, not for me.
They are a big and serious hosting provider, and they may not have a small enough hosting setup for you. But you will find it nearly universal that Windows hosting costs way more than Unix or Linux hosting. It’s a complete snake-pit for the server owner to have to patch their server every Thursday when a new attack vector is discovered and an update is released to mitigate it. Further, the Windows “server” model is better suited to separate physical machines per site than the *nix “hundreds of sites per machine” model, and those costs have to be borne somewhere. Higher infrastructure, support, and administration costs all around.
