Wouldn't it be great if...

I’ve come to the conclusion: if FW had a built in editor it would be the best of both worlds! Not only would it be a fantastic layout/design web tool, but if there was a way to edit the actual code it would be a fantastic learning tool also! I find myself using it a lot, just to analyze how positioning graphics on the page, or rollovers, etc. generate css code. Being able to edit that code, with an FW editor… Hmmm, Any chance of that ever happening? (Oh and could you make it cross-platform also, Santa)

I find myself wanting the same thing. In the meantime I have Coda. A
beautifully designed piece of software in its own right but not quite
the same as being able to do it in FW. Maybe someday.

If you just want to view the source, not tweak it and see what
happens, then you can use any programmer’s editor – BBEdit, Coda,
TextMate, others – as a browser. Preview in Browser accepts any of
these as a new browser. So you can just pull down the Preview In
Browser submenu, choose your editor, and blam – nice, line-numbered
and color-coded code.

I’ve learned a lot from previewing the source… but I’ve also learned that random positioning, i.e. FW method can generate some pretty bizarre numbers and or results… that don’t promote consistent repeatable elements across the design. I love FW. But it would be nice to go in and tweak the code when positioning elements across a page produces “visually” correct items, but “numerically”… 76.9, 76.5, 76.8 75.9 etc. etc. It still works great, but you know… it would be nice!

Any time that Freeway positions something at sub-pixel coordinates,
that’s a bug. Report it!

“Wouldn’t it be great if…” having to edit the code wasn’t necessary!
