Hello
Is it possible to access yahoo mail accounts via apple mail?
I’m certain I read that this can be achieved.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Yes, at least in the Leopard version, which will do the automatic set up for you. However, you will need a paid Yahoo! account for it to work. Free accounts are web access only.

To my knowledge: only by having your Yahoo mail redirected to a
regular POP or IMAP email account and then picking it up from there.
Or possibly by setting the Yahoo account to be accessed directly in
that way?
But either way, I believe this is still a commercial option; you have
to pay Yahoo.

Hmm that’s odd, I don’t pay Yahoo for mine, it is a bit old though,
maybe that’s why.

That’s interesting, as when I try to set up a Yahoo! acct in Mail it always fails. I guess the OP can try and see what happens.

You need to specify in the setting (on mail.yahoo.com) that you are
want to use pop forwarding. Although it is highly possible that this
is a premium only feature now. In fact, I have a vague recollection
that I tried to set an account up for someone and oddly enough it
would only work for free if you got a .co.uk account. I can’t for the
life of me remember how I did that though, possibly try here <http://uk.yahoo.com/
.

Hi
Yes you can do this with a yahoo.co.uk account - not sure about other Yahoos
“In order to read your Yahoo! Mail an external email client (such as Eudora, Outlook, Netscape, etc.), you will need to configure the Incoming (POP) and Outgoing (SMTP) server settings so that it can send and receive messages from your Yahoo! Mail account. Generally, you can find these settings under the Tools or Preferences menus for your particular email program.”
Server Settings
Incoming Mail Server (POP3): pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk Use SSL, port: 995
Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk Use SSL, port: 465, use authentication
Account Name/Username: ********

Hi
Thanks for the advice.
I simply went onto yahoo and signed up for an email account ensuring that I had a .co.uk suffix to the yahoo account.
Then it will simple to have the emailed forwarded to a regular account.
Of course this doesn’t help me with the yahoo.com address I already have, unless as was pointed out, I’m prepared to pay for the ‘advanced’ features (which I’m not)
Thanks again

With the UK account you dont have to forward it on - you can collect using Apple Mail.
Why not forward the .com account to the UK account if you can do that?
I suppose that window is closed to you.
