zen cart templates

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

I am learning building an ecommerce site w zen-cart. Is there a way to build a template for zen-cart in freeway?

Thank you!

I’m afraid not. To create the shop you just install the script and add your products, then If you want to style the shop you need to look in the CSS files and adjust as required to change fonts, font colours, div sizes, link colours etc, etc.

That not to say you can’t use Freeway to create the graphics you use for the shop.

You might want to look at Coda (from Panic) which incorporates a nice
CSS editor along with an industrial-strength code editor. Another app
on these lines is Espresso (from MacRabbit) which does the same thing,
more or less. MacRabbit already makes one of the finest CSS editors –
CSSEdit – which is a real workhorse.

You will need an FTP App like Cyberduck (free) and for example TextWrangler (free)

I used to use TextWrangler and Transmit combo, until the ‘oh so lovely’ interface of Coda became my current favourite that does both jobs together.

I did a Zencart site for a friend, finding all the files to change is a bit of a nightmare.

there are folders inside folders all containing files named the same thing so you never know which file to alter, if you update Zencart it overwrites all your changes unless you save them one of 7 specific folders and back it up.

It works but I really hated it, the whole thing is designed by masochists…

there is a new version in the works but it was promised to appear 10 months ago.

my advice is to buy a good book, I bought this one and it does help the steep learning curve

have fun Julie, if you can spare the time and you have enough patience the shop itself works fine

Gary -

you are so right… My eyes are spinning.

I looked at some clips of the book - maybe I will invest…

is there any other e-commerce cart that is easier to do? She wants to
upload it herself instead of paying someone to update.
we are looking at 50 products ( plus variations)

is it better to do mals? (but can she upload wo freeway?)

I will take any ANY suggestions or shopping carts etc!! Thank you

FoxyCart is a good option. Haven’t tried it myself, but a designer I
know told me about it, and he’s pretty code-phobic.
