4 wrapper split - backdraft

Good evening - I am having an issue w a fourwrapper split in backdraft.

If you look at:

http://grwebs.net/chopper/grasschopperspec.html

you can see I pasted in a 4 wrapper but why is the one to the right - all the way over there and how do I fix it.

thanks

Julie

Hmm… I’ve seen this before.

The problem is that the Box Sizing action isn’t working as it should. Here’s some things to try:

  • Open the actions palette, and select the fourLeft element. Make sure that the Box Sizing action uses “border box” and also ensure “convert width to percentage” is checked. Do this to each of the columns.

  • If that doesn’t fix it, try deleting the site from your server, clearing out the Site Folder, then forcing a republish and reupload.

  • Try installing the action from ActionsForge. Although the action should be cached in the Backdraft document, installing the action itself will rule out the possibility that the cached version is corrupted.

It was doing it way pre putting it on the server.

… and remove the (fixed) width for the item called “fourWrapperAlt” causing side-scrolling for browser-window smaller then 1200px.

in your case it’s the content of “Spreuk” which is graphic stuff (for whatever reason) that have fixed widths of 1122px.

Erik.

The problem is the graphic text that use are using as the h1. As a matter of policy, I never use graphic text - for a multiplicity of reasons:

  1. It looks terrible on retina displays.
  2. It scales as an image instead of reflowing like text.
  3. Bots can’t read it.
  4. Screen readers can’t read it.
  5. More images = slower loading website.

My suggestion would be to either use a web-safe font, or use a web font. Either of those will fix the problem in one fell swoop.

Yes that fixed the problem!

But now I’ve got a new one and it looks like the same as above

the right thumbnails have to much left space and also
before the problem the big foto’s were responsive (not anymore now):

http://www.marleenswaans.graphicid.nl/portretten/portfolio-portretten.html

What I did;
cleared ftp server, sitemap, reinstall box sizing action as above
and checked box action and border size as above?

Any idea’s?

Erik,

Could you send the website file to me? I’ve been getting reports of this problem, but am having a difficult time replicating it. It’s defiantly a problem with the Box Sizing action, but I can’t seem to figure out what’s causing it. Directions here.

That conjures up a strange image for me… a defiant action!

Let’s try that again: It’s definitely a problem with the Box Sizing action.

Although, I agree, a defiant action is indeed a rather strange thing to imagine.

Yeah, it seems to be an intermittent bug with the action.

In the meanwhile, you can fix this by duplicating the page, then deleting the original page.

Caleb,

it is still doing it - I did all -

Thomas,

It is set at fixed % when I change it - all is removed. I am confused what to change.

Julie, have you tried duplicating the page and seeing if the new page still has the problem?

Hi Julie,

when I read Caleb’s comments - this could be caused by box-sizing action (which I never used) as well?

To clarify - could you please do me a favor and select:

the item called fourWrapperAlt

then with selected item take a screenshot which shows the inspector entries of the first tab?

I only can inspect code and it has this width declared:

I wonder from where and why.

Cheers

Thomas

The Box Sizing action set’s the elements box-sizing to border-box and recalculates the percentage width of the element. I don’t have enough time right now to try to tackle exactly what box-sizing is and why it requires a recalculation of the width, except to say that it allows for easy module manipulation because I no longer have to hard-code the percent width of each column in Backdraft’s stylesheet. When the action works, it’s pretty sweet.

I’m talking with Softpress right now trying to figure out what the problem is. No success yet, but we’re working on it.

Julie, could you send me your Freeway file off-list? I’m trying to pinpoint what exactly is causing the problem, and the more examples of the problem I can compile the better.

Later today, I’ll work up a hard-coded temporary workaround and post it on the Fixes for Known Bugs page in the Backdraft Docs.
