404 Not Found Error

I have this 404 Not Found error when I check for bad links on my website. I know nothing about HTML and have no idea how to fix this! Can anyone help me out?

My website is www.robertferrell.com

The error message I’m getting is:

https://robertferrell.com/scripts/xw-gn-menu1.js

There’s a message that says “source link text with this below it:

Hi Rob,

This means that there isn’t a file called xw-gn-menu1.js in the scripts folder.

How are you uploading your website? If you’re uploading with Xway’s Upload command, that should ensure all the files that belong to your website are uploaded.

I’ve been using Cyberduck. I upgraded X but haven’t tried using the native upload feature!

I’ll try it. Hopefully it’s not too complicated! Thank you so much! The software and support have been amazing. I’ve been using it since Freeway Express. :folded_hands:

I just tried uploading it via the native uploader and I got this error message:

Upload failed: The server’s TLS/SSL certificate or SSH fingerprint could not be verified. [60]

Do I need to clear everything out of my public_html file first or will X’s uploader take care of that for me?

I apologize as I’m not very tech savvy at all. One of the main reasons I’ve been using your software for so long is due to the fact that I didn’t need to know HTML. Unfortunately I’m just as illiterate with uploading procedures too.

I really appreciate your patience!

If you were uploading manually with Cyberduck, that explains why the file might have been missing.

You should be able to use the same settings in Xway that you were using in Cyberduck. The error message you quoted might occur if you are using FTP over SSL/TLS instead of SFTP, or vice versa. Can you check that you are using the right protocol (the same one that you’ve been using with Cyberduck)?

You don’t need to delete files from your (online) public_html folder, but you can select the checkbox labelled “Delete destination files and folders that aren’t in the local Site folder” if you’d like to have non-Xway and non-current files be deleted automatically.

Also: check that you are using the correct server name (the same one that you’ve been using with Cyberduck).

I will check all that! Thank you so much Jeremy!

UPDATE: Victory! I just needed to set it to FTP. I cannot thank you enough for your amazing software and equally amazing customer support!

Having the ability to upload directly from the program takes me right back to the old Freeway and Freeway Express days! It is so much more convenient than using a third party program. Thank you again sir!

It’s good that plain FTP works, but it would be worth asking your web host if they support FTP with SSL/TLS or SFTP.

These are secure protocols (plain FTP is insecure).

I’m probably one of the few that still use GoDaddy. They handle my hosting and my security. I’ve used them since I first created my site. I’ll do some digging to see what I can find out.

I’m just happy to have the site uploaded with that error fixed. I kept getting notices from Google saying it was not being indexed and affecting my search ranking.
