Hi,
Just come to consult the oracle about a problem…
I have a new client who has 6,000 designs that she wants to sell as machine embroidered badges. The designs are dxf files that I can convert to bitmaps to show customers what they look like.
How would you initially go about implementing this on a website?
I’ll ask more questions once I know something/anything is possible.
Hi Jon,
I wouldn’t even consider creating and maintaining 6000 products in a Freeway document. Creating and maintaining the site will take forever and will almost certainly drive you slightly mad in the process.
My suggestion would be to create the main web site in Freeway as normal as well as a sample product page. You can then use this page as a template to serve any of the products automatically from a simple PHP script or database. At the simplest level, assuming all of the products are the same price, the PHP script would look for the image in a folder on the server and use this to create the correct product page (title, image, generic description, and buy button).
With a little PHP work your 6000 page site is now just a handful of files and is a LOT easier to maintain. I’ve created a number of these sorts of sites in the past and they aren’t as complex to create as you may think.
Regards,
Tim.
