a 7.0 file of mixed origin, very faulty indeed!

I am running into a lot of problems, despite the fact I have cleansed the paste board from anything ”evil” that can harm the layout of my work, the maxilla.nu domain.

(For those of you who live in the US, could you PLZ check to see if you can surf to it at all…? If you can’t reach it do you know of any reliable ISP in the U.S. that could host me to a very low cost?)

I have the same 100% of leading, but stil come up with different space between the lines of text, it look awful!

But since I started to work on that project in FW Pro 5.5 and the went on to 6.0, to finally land in 7.0, and get all this mishaps & faulty behaviour in FW Pro.

But on the other hand, the other work I also done in FW Pro 7.0, does not have any mishaps at all, I thought it could be a good idea to make a new file, and copy all the element on the pages into the new 7.0 file….?

Is there a future in this…, anyone who have had any experience in this…? Does it sound like a good idea…? Or do I have any other options…?

Basically, there is a specific (recommended) way to set and style text at all - which is mainly ignored by this audience.

I know - one of the strongest argument for a Freeway user is its easiness of simply fiddling in the inspector, done.

The simple truth is, that the result is (mostly) described with one word:

ragged

Now in your case:

I only looked at one paragraph of text:

In this paragraph you used 3 different styles - used double or triple times - even wrapping single characters in a new span. But this is not entirely your mistake - but is ending up in this disastrous result.

I often heard of the argument that we want to do it similar to InDesign (e.g.) - but even there “specific” styles are recommended to create.

For this reason, I recommend to delete all unnamed styles at all and review your strategy towards them:

This episode (and the following) may help if it comes to understand this strategy:

http://www.kimmich-digitalmedia.com/videos/013_thecodingepisodes_part6_the-paragraph

Following this strategy, I promise a successful migration of even a Version4-file successfully into 7. Cause a H1, H2, H3 and paragraph is nothing new.

Cheers

Thomas

I don’t live in the US but have access to a US proxy server and can access your site fine.

As far as your leading goes I see that as mostly 100% except for

.style4 { color:#000; font-family:Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; font-size:14px; letter-spacing:0.42px; line-height:0.9;
.style112 { color:#000; font-family:Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif; font-size:10px; letter-spacing:-0.1px; line-height:0.9 }

So make sure it is consistent.

I also see a setting for letter-spacing that I would not expect.

.style41 {
letter-spacing: -0.24px;
}

That may well be affecting all your text is it is set at different amounts in different places. I would make sure it was at the default 0.

First of all; thank you for your very intelligent comments & advise! But you seem to be working ”under the hood” in the ”mysterious dark empires” of FW pro 7.0, not known to newbies like me…

Delta Dave, you wrote: ”So make sure it is consistent.”
I´d love to, but HOW? And WHERE do I put in this information to FW?

I am however thrilled to learn, making me believe that there are eons of possibilities in FW Pro…!

Even If this ”working under the hood” - thing was something you should not have to do in this magnificent software.

My point is that there are defaults built in to FW and a deviation from those default values has to come from someone - the user.

So if you have changed the leading somewhere then it is down to you to make sure that is what you meant to do.

You can select all your text and adjust the leading quite easily by using the Menu item Style>Leading and then set it to what you want.

Similarly for letter-spacing (the gaps between individual letters) - you must have selected your text and altered it in the same Menu ie Style>Letter Spacing.

As to making it consistent Thomas talks about his screencasts that show you how to set up your own Standards for certain styling and if you watch http://www.kimmich-digitalmedia.com/videos/013_thecodingepisodes_part6_the-paragraph then you will see how to do that.

I am not asking you to do anything ‘under the hood’ this is all at the fingertips of the average FW user and does not require any additional coding at all.
