Adobe Systems has said that the scope of a cybersecurity breach disclosed
nearly a month ago was far bigger than initially reported, with attackers
obtaining data on more than 38 million customer accounts.
This is just the tip of an iceberg. My friends in the Cyber Security realm
say this kind of thing happens all the time, but is under-reported. The
private sector has a very uneven ability to protect or respond to such
attacks. They need to work together on stuff like this, but they can’t –
it is not in their competitive nature. I believe we need a government
agency that can help private industry create and adopt useful security
standards, like the FDA or such - but for cyber security.
