Any thoughts...

A client just mentioned this site to me
http://html5up.net
The templates look pretty good to me and they are free - but I presume you need to know your way around code a bit (so no good to to me).
Is this the way it is going to go? Should web designers be concerned?

Concerned about what? The proliferation of canned templates, or the need for a fundamental understanding of code?

These “freemium” site design portals have been around as long as the visual web itself. I recall seeing them pop up in the late ‘90s. Understand that they are doing you an enormous favor. Anyone who would fish in these waters is no client you want to have. So don’t worry about them, let them be what they are, for who they attract. They do not affect the price for your services in any way, except maybe to satisfy the off-the-shelf customer who would not be buying tailored anyway.
