Sadly, no. I never knew about it.

My friend is a science reporter and she was at JPL on the day of the
landing. She was giving me live updates all day and a minute-by-minute
description of the actual landing from inside mission control, of all
places. It was exciting. Kind of made me feel as though I was there!
