I have a project to redesign a website that appears to use asp.net – I was sent files from the person who originally set up the site and there are are a couple aspx files in the folder. While I know very little about this, I do need to temporarily move the files to a new hosting site at goDaddy while I do the re-design.
My first question is how to get the files up to the new server so that they can maintain the site once the old host account is shut down (which is supposed to be shortly). I tried to ftp the files to the goDaddy root directory, but got an error message when trying to preview from godaddy’s file management control panel.
The question is how I can maintain the feed they currently have in my new design – in an iframe? php? As part of my redesign, the client either wants to maintain the feed they currently have or have me set something up where they can easily update their concert listings. If I go the CMS route I figured I would use WebYep. If the former, what is the best way to pull in the aspx feed of the concert listings.
Just to be clear I know nothing about asp.net and am a novice with php.
Hi jeff
I have just converted the two pages and tested it locally and its working fine… the feed is working so your client is stil able to see there existing site etc… so if you give me your email address then I can get the files to you so you are able to upload the files via somethong like cyberduck ftp application to go dady.
speak soon max
Yes GoDaddy will be a permanent home for the site – that’s who they set up their site with.
Max was kind enough to convert the old pages to html and php, so they seem to work on goDaddy’s Linux server (I tested the using their preview DNS component.
I’m hoping to get around the feed idea since there is not much control over how the feed looks, but not sure I will win that battle. So I’m looking alternate ways to pull the feed into something that looks a little better – and probably not on the home page. Ideas anyone?
Cheers keith… in fact cheers to every one thats left a note… I am gob smacked by how many people have left me a kind or funny note… so thanks to every one in the freeway community that knows me
