Another new web editor, though this one is by Github and built with HTML, CSS, and JS. At first glance, it seems like a cross between Brackets and Sublime Text. It’s in closed beta right now, but I’ve signed up and can’t wait to get my paws on it.
I’ve managed to get my hands on a beta invite, and must say that I’m quite smitten with Atom. For being in very early beta, it’s surprisingly stable and has quite a few good features and already has quite a few third party extensions. The fact that it’s built with web technologies is particularly awesome, I can customize the appearance very easily with CSS (LESS to be exact).
My biggest critique ATM is the lack of good autocompletion. I absolutely love the way that Chocolat does this:
However, with Atom, you have to press ⌃space to trigger a “suggestions” palette. Granted, this is not terrible, but I do love good autocompletion!
Oh man, auto-completion is so ubiquitous anymore that I hate the absence of
it in FWP… especially as 3/4 of my typing fingers are always going the
wrong way!
My biggest critique ATM is the lack of good autocompletion.
BTW, I have one Atom invite to give away. If you want it, send me an email with your email address. You can find my email at http://onrampwebdesign.com#contact.
P.S. The autocomplete has gotten better, but it’s still not quite there yet.
