ATSUI detecting a corrupt FONT

Hi all,

I came across of a german-user problem that I never heard of:

He can’t open his FW-file anymore cause he has a prompt like this (i know german, but may the number is telling anybody something):

Free translated:

Could not use a FONT, cause ATSUI detected a damaged one. Make sure not to use damaged FONTs in your FONTfolder.

Did you ever had such strange things or heard of? What can I tell him to fix this?

Thanks for any suggestion.

Cheers

Thomas

Hi Thomas,

Can you ask them to open FontBook, select all their fonts in it and go to File>Validate Fonts to check for any errors. They may be able to fix the errors in FontBook but if not, get them to disable any bad ones and try Freeway again. If that’s still no good then get them to disable all their user fonts and try Freeway again. If that works then enable half the fonts and then repeat the process until the problem font is found.

Also, we did some work on fonts for 5.5.4 so upgrading to that may help.

Joe

Hi Joe,

thanks for the super-quick answer.

As far as I know he did both, first all FONTs the his user FONTs. He wrote something about damaged Fonts and that he removed them - but without any success. Just the safe reboot mode let him open the file as usual.

But I try to get in touch with him and he shall try to disable all FONTs and retry.

So it is really a damaged FONT causing this? Wow - as I said - never heard of (fortunately).

Thanks so far

Cheers

Thomas

I’ve had that problem too back in 2008.

  1. removed damaged font
  2. cleaned all font caches
  3. reinstalled a proper font
  4. set the font categorie to default (used Tinker Tool)
  5. opened FW …
  6. renewed font set
  7. replaced font in FW
  8. opened the document

Usually these problems are caused by fonts from free download sites or old postscript fonts. In my case it was an old Times.
