I have been out for a while…in many ways, trying now to get back into some things.
I’m working with a radio station that uses WordPress for their sites and we are implementing 7 second popup video ads to be seen before a reader can progress to a story. So far, we have used PopUp by supsytic to implement this. However, there are some inconsistencies with this program. We have the settings marked to auto-play and this works sometimes in some browsers. There is also a problem with this working on ios and android devices. The videos will not autoplay at all on the handhelds.
I’m turning to the Freeway community for assistance with this, even though it is a wordpress based site (and has to be, for now).
Thanks in advance,
Rich

These popups – do they literally open a new window, or do they slide a CSS layer onto the existing page in the same browser window? I think getting the former to work at all will be a non-starter in a mobile browser. I have suffered through enough of the latter to know that it is possible there. Not saying I really want to help put another of these into the world, but there you go.

I’m not seeing it happen on the home page, not in any of the three desktop browsers I have here: Safari, Firefox, and Chrome. Can you point us to a page that definitely has it working, and give any details about how you’ve implemented it here? If you’re able to see it working, can you describe exactly what we’re supposed to see happen? Does the popup open in a new window (with or without browser chrome) that is distinct and separate from the main window? Or does it add a layer over the top of the page, without removing the current page or opening a different window?

Walter,
Good to see you here…
www.wkvi.com is our website. I have a popup attached to the home page launch and to some of the stories as well.
Autoplays on some and not on others, don’t know why.
I’m open for suggestions on what kind of software or plug in it would take to make the autoplay behaviour uniform.
Okay, I see it in desktop Safari. I also see it in mobile Safari. The layout is a bit off there, with the video pushed down toward the bottom of the initial viewport, but it does appear. I don’t have another mobile browser or Android device to test with here, but I think this is the working example that you need to compare your other applications to.

Thanks, Walter.
Here is a page where you can find what I am looking at:
Thanks for looking. Is there anyway to make sure this autoplays on all browser formats? That’s the biggest issue facing us now. Of course, I want the placement uniform and some of the sizing might have to be adjusted as this is a new product for us, but the autoplay is the big deal for now.
Appreciate,
