best platform / how to do this

Good evening,

I belong to a marketing group. We are interested in making a similar website to:
http://www.glenrock.patch.com

Can anyone tell me if this can be done in FW with additions? or what platform do you recommend.

Wow, that sounds like serendipity – Dan J could do that in Expression
Engine for his screencast series! (Kidding, Dan, yes you could, but
it would be a huge undertaking.)

Julie, this is a big, content-managed site, written in Rails 3, and
represents (my guess) hundreds of thousands of dollars of work at
regular scales. It’s written to be a platform that anyone can use,
though, so you might want to talk to the Patch people about using
their kit to build such a site for your group. Their business model
seems geographically driven, though, so I’m not sure there’s a fit
there.

If you could pick a less technologically-imposing scope of work, you
could probably use Perch plus the blogging add-on to build most of it
from within Freeway. The social media stuff might be a challenge, I
know there are Actions to add that to a static page, but I don’t know
how they would work along with a dynamic page.

Thank you! I bet Dan J can do it too.

I thought it was but was unsure about the platform. They seem to be in the tristate area plus other areas. I did email them after reading your post about bringing patch up here.

Perch is a PHP micro CMS similar to WebYep, but with a lot of cool
features that might make it good for this type of page. There is a
blogging add-on to Perch that takes it from a more news-oriented CMS
to a blog-centric one, rather than the expected blog-forced-into-a-CMS
model.

[Laughs] Geez Julie, I guess you don’t read my posts, I often recommend it. Perch http://grabaperch.com is a lightweight MySQL-powered CMS. There are several add-ons, one of which is a blog. It bridges the gap between something like WebYep and a more robust app like MODx or EE or Joomla etc.
