Building a subscriber-only site

This has probably been discussed here before, but I have been “tasked” with building a Freeway site that requires a subscription (with unique usernames and passwords).

I’ve gathered all of the PHP and MySQL Actions I can find and have installed a MySQL database editor. The problem is that I am way out of my depth with this kind of stuff. Is there some way that this can be learned online using a not too technical approach?

For that matter, am I using the right strategy for this kind of thing? Are their alternatives to MySQL?

Oddly enough, the Password Field Action would work except that I need to accommodate, at least, 200 subscribers or more instead of just 29.

I already have PHP 4 and even a MySQL database folder enabled on my IP account.
