Can you make a type rollover within FWP5?

I struggled tonight trying to make rollovers with type inside FWP5. Sometimes the links area in the inspector palette was there, sometimes I couldn’t find it anywhere. What’s the deal, folks? I just want a multi-state rollover for internal links.

I also had a lot of trouble getting internal links to stick to assigned type. Discovered I often had to Delete a type string’s bad link first, then reassign it to the correct page. But even that was flaky, would work sometimes, not others. Very frustrating.

I’m on a Mac Mini Intel, OS X Tiger 10.4.11. That causing any of my grief?

Is there a way to select down through layered items with a keyboard command, similar to how it’s done in Quark or InDesign? That would sure be helpful.

Sometimes the links area in the inspector palette was there,
sometimes I couldn’t find it anywhere.

The Inspector palette is context-sensitive; it changes what it
inspects depending on what you have selected. The Links panel is a
page-level property. If you want to target text links within specific
HTML boxes or groups you have to use other more fine-grained methods.
This is the simple way that does the trick most people need, with the
least fuss.

Sounds… weird. Internal links are never ‘flaky’ in my experience. I
don’t see how they can be. Mind you, more detail about exactly what
you’re trying to do and how you’re tring to do it would help a lot.

Exactly as it is done in QuarkXPress. Well, with a slightly more
intelligent twist…

Hold down the Command and Option keys (that’s Apple and Alt if you
prefer) and click… click… click…
Each successive click will select the next item below.

If you add the Shift key to the mix then you don’t deselect one thing
as you select the next one below. That’s the bit that’s smarter than
the current XPress trick; it uses all three keys to drill down, so
there’s no option for this kind of selection subtlety.

Keith, thanks so much. I’m a very new user of FWP, but have been a longtime fan of the CONCEPT of it, I’m a designer most comfy in Quark. That selecting items tip is great.

I’m trying to create a vertical navbar like I saw at a site in the softpress gallery: minimoko.com. It’s just simple text links, normal state is grey, rollover is black, that’s it. How is that done in FWP5?

I just tried to create a text rollover to do that, and it failed miserably. Set up page link parameters, selected type, it went white when I thought I’d set it for grey, and it isn’t changing colors, the box even shrinks down and moves down and to the right. Ugh. Tutorials anywhere for this?

Also, any tips anywhere on how to create a breadcrumb trail?

Last Q for now: single redo is driving me nuts, will unlimited, or at least more redo’s, be added?

To paraphrase “Theres an action for that!” Navigation Bar action. Part of the standard set I think.

You could use the CSS Menu action for your menu
