Can't delete file using Cyberduck

I have two PDF files in the RESOURCES folder on my site which was created and uploaded with Freeway Pro 5.5. The page that these were two PDF’s had links on has been deleted, along with the other PDF’s that were linked from the page.
However, when I view my site folders using Cyber Duck, these two PDF files are still in the RESOURCES folder and are still searchable with Google and contain information that I do not want available on the web. I have used Cyber Duck to access my files on my site but when I try to remove them I get the message that they can’t be removed. When I choose GET INFO (I’m on a MAC) about the PDF it says that the access is READ ONLY but there is NO OPTION to change this. Can anyone help? I am VERY unskilled with all this so if you are kind enough to help, please be clear and explicit. Thanks. Adam

Hi Adalom,

Rather than get into a technical discussion of what it means to control
your server, I’d say the easy way is to contact your hosting provider and
ask them to remove those files for you.

Then, ask them how you can have this level of control over their server for
yourself. If they say you can’t, then it’s time to look for a better
hosting provider. That’s what I say.

I’d say the easy way is to contact your hosting provider and ask them to remove those files for you.

Or go into your hosts equivalent of cPanel and do it in the File Manager section of that.

Ernie and David

Thank you both. Ernie, I called them and they instructed me to go into their equivalent cPanel, as you suggest David, and the PDF’s are deleted. Thank you for taking the time to help, much appreciated.

Great! I love CPanel myself, but I’ve found not every hosting provider
offers that type of thing.

With FTP, you want an application that will work with you in terms of
server-level permissions… I’m not sure if Cyberduck features that, but the
FTP client I use does, so let me take a second to plug Transmit from Panic,
Inc. Whatever it costs me is far outweighed not only by the superior
control it provides, but the feel of superior control it gives me.
