Can't open freeway document in xway?

Please can you help - I’ve just installed xway and want to open a site I built in freeway but it won’t open.
I’ve followed the instructions in the user guide appendix (file>open>###.freeway file) but nothing happens. I’ve also tried dragging the freeway file onto xway in the dock and then I get the error message “the document ###.freeway could not be opened”.
The site was made and saved in freeway pro 7.1.4

Thanks

Hi Annab,

Can you send us a copy of your Freeway document (via some kind of file transfer service such as Dropbox or WeTransfer)?

Compress the document before sending it, and email a transfer link to: support at softpress dot com.

Thanks Jeremy, I’ve just done that

Thanks for sending the document.

Xway is having trouble reading a box that contains a QuickTime movie (RTLMextract.mov). This is on the last page of your Freeway document (“RTLM (spoken)”).

I’ll look into why this is causing a problem, but if you are still able to run Freeway you can work around the problem by deleting this box (Name/ID: RTLMextract) from the Freeway document. If you re-save the document after doing this, you should then be able to open it in Xway.

As for the movie, you can probably import it back into Xway (using the Insert Video tool in the toolbar) if you change the extension from .mov to .mp4. (The mp4 format was based on the QuickTime container format.)

I’ve tracked down the problem, and we’ll fix it (in an update) soon!

It looks like this affects any Freeway document that contains QuickTime or Flash plug-in content.

This is probably not a common situation: Flash has been deprecated for years, and QuickTime wasn’t widely used outside of macOS.

The fact that it failed silently when you opened the document from File > Open (instead of displaying an alert) is something else that we will fix.
