Captcha

I may have to add a captcha to a Form - is this easy? I see the easicaptcha but I cant figure out if I have to buy the PHP easiform stuff to get this to work? Are there other options? I bought the antispam action but that doesnt seem to be working although I haven’t used the asp option yet not sure if Godaddy is more to blame here too…

Any pointers would be great basically the client is getting a lot of spam and he like the captchas as they worked for him before…

Any better easy options?

Unfortunately a captcha may not help as a lot of this sort of spam is generated by very low paid workers actually getting paid 5 Rupees for every 100 forms they complete.

The PHP Feedback Form action includes a Honey Trap that deals with most autocompleted forms and also has the option to block offending IP addresses.

But the EasiForm action is also a good option - if you can get GD’s servers to play nice. I wouldnt hold my breath.

Justin,
Yes easiCaptcha is for using with easiForm.

easiCaptcha supplies two options, an image CAPTCHA or a Math question the use must answer.

A lot of spam is sent by humans so a CAPTCHA is not a lot of use on that although if your client wants one then…

easiForm has also a ‘Bad words’ filter, this is what is what I consider the best spam trap for my forms. You can be a little clever and use this option to filter out email you don’t want, for example a lot of spam is sent with a http:// or [http:whatever in the message, set the bad words filter tp pick up on ‘http’ or ‘[http’ and any emails that contain those combinations in the text will not be permitted. You ned to be a litle careful though because if you added ‘sex’ to the bad words filter and a user added sussex in the text it would also be blocked.

It is fairly near impossible to stop all spam but I have found on the many forms I use that the bad words filter to be the best way of stopping spam.

You can set the actions up and get it all running to see if you are happy before you need to purchase a license and the actions are GoDaddy friendly from the number of people I have had that use them there. The only thing you will probably need to do if a GD hosting account and the account uses PHP 5 is to set up a PHP ini file and add a couple of lines for including ioncube, there is a support page on this at the GD web site.
