Is it possible to have a Carousel Tab Button within the Carousel Pane itself rather than outside?
I doubt it is as it hasn’t worked for me, but just wondered.

You can try putting one instance of the tabs as a separate floating layer over the Carousel. Draw an HTML box off screen somewhere, draw your tab images as children of that box, and wire them up. Then bring the HTML box to front, and drag it over the top of the main carousel pane, and see how it works.
