Hi!
I need a help in centering site to browser window.
I created site and I need to center “center column” to center of browser window (no matter the window’s size).
I know the easy solution is to use page-alight-center, but I came across a problem with this solution. Because I use some background image with tile option and width 100% the center alignment make that tile only document size wide not 100%.
I also group all my elements what i need to center in one div called Body
(
. I thought that (like in photoshop) I can alight my group to center and all my items will automatically alight to center as well. But I am straggling to find any way to alight my group.
For now I use 15% left inset to my group, and it looks centered on my screen with 1920px width, but on any other displays it off balance.
Thanks for thread suggestion.
It’s not designed for iPad to view its a iPad app info page website, so it’s for everyone to see (not only iPad).
If you talking about image size, I tried to use best compression possible for that image dimensions. I don’t know what else I could do to decrease it. Any suggestion, beside decrease image dimensions?
But surely if it is an iPad app info page then you expect iPad users to visit?
But your images I am sure can be compressed more without much loss of quality - ipads.png is nearly 750Kb on its own. header_background is much wider than it needs to be and could be cut by 80%
It looks great on iPad I checked exept a minor glitch with header_background, which is actually even 100 % in width still cut short at the left side. I tried to compress iPad png, but the smallest size I get is png-24 is actually as its now, other is formats corrupted colors or dither or else.
With the header_background - if it’s smaller in dimentions repetitive tile is visible and ugly.
May be I am missing something here?
But let’s get back to center problem . I downloaded Walter sample document and it’s cool. I see the tutorial about that technique.
I really hoped for a simpler solution. In my photoshop mind I thought I put everything in place then group all my elements and just alingmy group to center. Why or why I could not do that, it’s easy simple and logical yet beyond freeway or HTML layout implementation or am I missing here something too?

Well, you could try this:
Group all of your content elements together.
While they are all selected, Cut to the clipboard
Double click into the page body itself (flashing text cursor) and
Paste.
Click once on the edge of the inline group so it becomes selected
(or use the Site panel in Page mode to do the same thing) and in the
Inspector, change the Margin attribute to Auto (centered).
Make sure your page is set to Align: None in the page inspector.
There’s a strong chance this might not work exactly the way you
expect, but you may get lucky. One thing is certain – this will be a
right pain to edit after you’ve done this.
Guys thanks a lot
I am back to beginning and will resize my design and try to make that Walter suggested.
I’ll go back to you on that.
Meanwhile thanks a lot for help.

To Walter - your plan did not work! First of all it’s put my whole group at the bottom of stack and I could not move it up ( but I need to have some of the items below the group body and on top of the group as well). Second it did put my whole group in the middle, but only in the middle/center to webpage which is 1400 less then my monitor or web browser and its of course not centered to the web browser window.
So really no luck for me here.
I am so disappointed - such a easypeasy thing to do, and I believe such a common thing, but such a pain in the …
argh!!!
IN FWPro 7 is there a way to cause a fixed with site to center on monitors wider than what presently exists on mangumandsons.com??
(where the majority of viewers are using full screen access including 27" which is the only request so far.
That site is too complex to tackle altering in below it’s current width as the visual sequence of the pictures is critical to comprehension of the complexity of work involved. scrolling pictures will NOT convey the same information. I just want it to be centered in very wide screens without changing any other aspect; is it possible? Easy to do or? HOw
