Changing scale

If I start a drawing with a ruler at one scale, how can I convert the file and continue at another scale. For instance, I created some graphics for the side of a railcar at 1 inch = 6 ft. Now I want to create a file that can be used to cut vinyl at 1 inch = 1 inch. The real size of the graphic is 24 ft wide which is reflected in the “Geometry” window. If I create a new file with a 1 to 1 ruler and paste in the the graphic from the original file it is only 2.824 inches wide.

Thanks,

Bill Nash

It is indeed because one and the same is used…
To change the real size You should “s” select and object/scale->set another scale …

Ruller scale is just the aid to help You visualise things.

So for example:

I have a letter page and I want to fit a design of a floor on it.

The floor measures 3 x 4 meters and I have a letter page →
So I can recalculate in my mind every single measure or set another ruler to 1:20 to fit it all on the page…
Setting this kind of ruler lets me draw using the real measures and it will be automatically recalculated to the right size.

But as far as I was using this scale to print on one letter page, anything I will export to a vinyl cutter will be the size of a letter page, because I didn’t change a scale of the object but a scale of the ruler!

So, to cut in 1:1 i need to “s” select the objects and object/scale them to 20:1 or 2000% .

I hope You get the idea

Yes, I finally did it that way but I recall using some software that handled the conversion for me as I moved it. May have required some sort of Paste Special. Must have been MacDraw Pro but that was a long time ago.

I’m pretty sure that CorelDraw v3.0 I’ve used years ago had this possibility to change the scale while “saving as…” . Yes it would be nice, but anyway You design the drawing till the end - so till the size and all the rest is right the way You want it…

 Yes, I understand that I have to save 3 different files… One for printer, one for vinyl cutter and the other one for the other media type… But anyway, You can rescale, than do “save sellection as” and then undo the rescale operation…

cheers
