Colors faded when importing from Aperture (or iPhoto)

Hi Fellow FW Users,

This problem’s been driving me batty and I’m hoping someone can help.

The colors in the photos on my website appear faded and drab. I created the site with Freeway Pro 5 and mostly imported them either from Aperture directly (RAW or JPG) or as PNG exports from Aperture. I’ve also tried from iPhoto.

Does anyone have any ideas? I’m on a MacBook Pro, if that helps any. But a friend with a PC said the same thing (without me asking).

Thanks for any help whatsoever!

Have you seen this KB article?

The same option could be available in Aperture (I haven’t really used
it).

Also, do you notice the problem in Firefox? Safari is the only browser
(I know of) that will display an image’s color profile correctly, all
others will use the working space.

It’s a bit hidden. Essentially, you have to edit the export formats to
give the output colour profile you want.

I find it a bit confusing, because you can also directly access your
iPhoto and Aperture libraries through various dialogs using the Media
section in Leopard. I think you get a generic JPEG when you do that,
so it will be affected by the JPEG output options.

I’ll dig around in a minute and see what I can find in Aperture.

As ever, it’s right under my nose.

Almost everything about Aperture is customisable. If you go Aperture >
Presets > Image Export that opens a dialog where you can modify many
aspects of the default export options, as well as add your own
variations. It’s in this area you set the colour profile and quality
settings for exporting images from Aperture.

I also notice a Web Export option under the Presets menu. This will
affect the quality settings if you try and let Aperture make web
pages. (It’s not very pretty, mind.)

Hope that helps.

Hi Joe and Heather,

Thanks so much for checking up on this issue. Meanwhile, I also found you can change the out put in Freeway directly for each format. PNG has a “millions” of colors option, which I tried and then hit Resample All.

It seems to have improved the colors, but not 100%. Am going to try Heather’s suggestion in Aperture + the FW color options and see if that does the trick.

Shall report back promptly!

Cheers!
