Concatenate, Minify & Compile

With so much focus on optimizing pages for speed and services like GTmetrix http://gtmetrix.com and YSlow that assess possible problem areas, things like minifying and concatenating files has become commonplace. It can be a pain to do this stuff manually but there are several apps that automate this process by watching folders/files and makes a tedious chore pretty much hands-off. One of them is Prepros http://alphapixels.com (free and paid) which also happens to be a Sass compiler.

If you’re concerned about making your pages as lean and quick as possible then apps like Prepros can be useful set-and-forget tool to help improve speed scores with minimal effort on your part.

I’ve installed the Page Speed mod on my server, which takes care of minifying by itself (and a whole bunch more, like base64 encoding and inlining small images). Pretty sweet, though it does have hiccups on occasion.

I didn’t know there was an Apache mod, nice. Too bad I’m on a shared server.
