critiques please

First - thank you for all of your help…

while I wait for some info about password protecting a slideshow
(please & thank you) and some info from the daycare to plug in
(instructor descriptions / photos etc)

I would love to hear your thoughts, ideas, etc about this site.

this is my first real site that I am doing. (minus my own)

please be honest…

Thank you!!

Julie

Your link should be to the homepage - no biggie.

Looks professional. Fairly easy navigation.

I’d get rid of the little arrows in the boxes, I thought they were or the text were links. Simple bullets might be better.

Perhaps a call to action (Donate, Learn More) button on the homepage would help.

Good job.

George,

THank you! I appreciate your input. and that it looks professional

But I am confused. what arrows where? I looked over my page and I
have none that I can see… but if you can direct me to them…

also this is a site for a daycare… we are not looking for
donations… though maybe that might be an idea in the future…

More suggestions / honest thoughts would be great.

Your original link goes to Grassroots.org.

All of my above comments are void.

Your site unfortunately does not look particularly professional. Maybe that is what the owners want, but to me it feels like something done on PageMaker 5 years ago. For example, the graphics for TLC are not crisp. They look like they were scanned in on a home printer. The navigation is not especially clear and your text just shows up on the page. The colors are also pretty washed out. I’d expect to see a lot more color, pictures, and graphics.

This all sounds harsh, but I trying to point out the deficiencies as I see them. There are some good things you’ve done that you can build on. For your market it might not really matter, I don’t know. I do have 5 kids under age 9, so I am certainly child aware.

Take a look at other competitor sites as well as the work from folks on this forum for ideas.

Good luck.

Yeah, you’re first link brought us to the wrong website.

You have to get those links off of the tree trunk. I didn’t see them at all at first, and once I found them I couldn’t read them.

I think the overall idea is good. It’s friendly and welcoming and safe, not flashy and same ol’ same ol’. But I agree that things need to be cleaned up and sharpened up. Pay close attention to your color scheme. Do not allow anything of importance to be difficult to see or read or interact with. And watch out for the Angry Fruit Salad effect–too many colors fighting it out.

Good luck.
