Crucial SSD

Anyone have experience with Crucial internal SSD? I need to replace a MBP drive.

I’ve heard good things.

Hi Todd,

I’ve bought and have in use at least 15 Crucial SSDs [960Gb, 500GB and
256GB capacities] over the past 2 years or so, they’ve gone into MBPs
MacPros iMacs, MacMinis and even into an external case for my LightRoom
pic store drive.

All my Macs now have SSDs in them either on their own or in tandem with
an existing HDD. But the SSD is always the boot.

I’ve not had any issues with them, other than being lightning fast …

You won’t be disappointed.

If it’s a MBP it’ll be quite a simple swap. But if you want to add to
iMacs, MacPros or MacMinis you’ll find OWC a great place to find
additional installation kits:

Cheers Peter

They are great, I have one in a 17" MBP, it replaced a 7200 RPM drive, which was fast when it was new, but the difference of adding the SSD was immediate and amazing. I was really quite ready to get a new laptop until I did that.

Later, I added an OWC Mercury SSD to my Mac Pro (2008), and that was another “awakening”. Crucial is an excellent brand. If you can find a good deal, grab it.

Thanks Peter and Walter, glad the positive buzz is well-earned.

Like Walter I was ready to pull the trigger on sweet new MBP but instead I thought I would try pimpin’ out my 2011 MBP (13”) and save a couple $k in the process.

Just ordered a 500GB SSD and 16GB RAM from Crucial. Plus a new OWC battery.

Can’t wait to see the speed difference.

Peter and Walter,

I installed the new drive and RAM yesterday and wow, you guys weren’t kidding. It’s like having a new computer, albeit one that’s a bit beat up cosmetically.

It’s ridiculous.

Hi Todd,

Glad you like the difference.

It really is like a new Mac.

Apple have been working on internal speed boosts to make their
equivalent of SSDs even faster, I’d want my next Mac not to be a
disappointment in terms of speed! Hopefully there will be new MBPs at
WWDC, we’ll see just have much better they are.

Cheers Peter
