Customer download and upload area

Hi All,

I know this has probably been covered before. However, what I’m trying to do is create an area where a client can upload and download files. We have a few customers who would benefit from having an area to store some readily available files; readily available to both them and us.

Something that looks user-friendly, perhaps with a browse button to upload the file and then appearing in a list where they can download when required.

Is there an action, a third-party site that can be integrated into Freeway or some other (easy) way?

Many thanks,

Graeme

There are many solutions out there. Have a look at http://www.hotscripts.com/ or http://www.scripts.com/php-scripts/

Some cost money, many are free.

Find something you like the look of and I am sure we can help you integrate it into your FW page.

But tread with caution as file uploading is potentially fraught with danger. You MUST do everything within your capabilities to ensure that malicious files cannot be uploaded to your server - a server that you are probably sharing with hundreds of other sites. Do you want to be responsible for bringing them all down?

Although this may not be what you want, I use Dropbox to great success. It plays nicely for most OS’s, and make file transfers a breeze.

Not exactly sure what that means or what your intentions are, but you could set up a password protected directory on your hosting server and only give the password to specific clients, or have specific folders for specific clients and password protect them per client. That won’t guaranty that some malicious code won’t intentionally be uploaded (depending on the nature of your clients) but should be workable for simple file transfers/storage.

Still, that’s not a very good practice as far as site bandwidth uses go. File transfers should be relegated to site content only.

I think jotform could do this if set up so. It’s really easy to make forms for uploading files. You could add the downloading feature for your clients by including the download link in the email notification sent to them. Couldn’t be simpler than that. Integration into Freeway is really easy. Just add a markup item and adjust things however you want. Jotform is free for limited use, but a small paid fee gets you quite a bit of mileage.
