database interface II

Following on from this thread:

I’ve now been tasked with the job for better (fat envelope) or worse (where’s the search page).

The main site is ok, its still the search database interface were my knowledge lacks.

The ‘dynamic list’ javascript threw me somewhat, not knowing its purpose, so what I tried was taking just the form element from the existing search page (old site and database are still live and I have permission to use the code) and pasting it into a markup on a blank page and testing in a browser. Apart from the styling which i can sort it all worked fine but of course it linked to the existing site and the results were shown accordingly.

My question (s) are , How does the callback work ? Do I need to create a separate page for the results… How can I utilise the existing search results page code? The results consist of various tables and some graphics - looking like an old tabbed card file. Client wishes to retain that.

Still uncertain about the ‘dynamic list’ purpose but it could be from the databases original incarnation of seven years ago and now redundant. Otherwise I could paste in.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Looking back at your earlier posts, it seems that this is an ASP page of one sort or another, so you’d have to talk to the developers of that system for clues how to get your results page to look the way you want them to. I’m afraid that my knowledge of ASP is quite distant and out of date, so I won’t be any help to you. I think that there are other people on the Dynamo list who might be closer to it. You might want to post an SOS there.

Thanks Walter. I’ll repost.

It is an asp database. In a sense have the code its just were it fits into the scheme of things and how I can use it.

We are staying with the same host server so they might also be of help - charging enough.
