Difference btwn ScriptyLightbox and Spawn New Win

Both of these actions work to my needs, but is there a performance compnent that makes one a better choice… Thanks

… I might be wrong here, but opening stuff (by link or even another event) in a “new browser window instance” can be classified as “pop-up” and each browser has opportunities to block these kind of things (which is helpful to prevent you from smart advertisings such as “Keep your mac clean” or “increase size whatsoever”).

Furthermore, some users are overwhelmed by two or more browser-windows (or even do not recognize them). Think of the mobile-devices but as well the few PC windows users still alive that are not used to.

Lightbox is an in browser-window event and can be naturally abused as well. But subtle used (galleries e.g.) I like it very much.

So to me it’s not really a question of performance but more one of attitude. It depends more on what kind of content you’re trying to load.

You see - I’m not the biggest fan using them both as page concept - for Spawn New Window I even see not one reason for to use.

Cheers

Thomas — Thank you for the insight… I am using the lightbox type effect within a selectable photo gallery… You can see an old world example of the site I am updating with FWP @ zscapes.com… If you navigate to the Collecitons section and delve into one of the choices, such as Emigrant Wilderness, selecting any of the images gives the users a ‘pop-up’ window with details about that particular feature… I also have a drop-down menu to help with navigation as the pictures are on chronological order as created and the drop down is in alpha for easier identification…

This is not a commercial venture, more of a share the outdoors type site and I do have people using it for planning trips and have had inquiries from various people studying the area…

Do you have any alternate suggestions on handling these type of actions… It would appreciate your input…

hmm - difficult.

I dislike mouthwatering, just because I don’t know the skills of each user. From the “Action-side-of-life” there is anyway not much alternatives - so it’s just fine.

What you could think of is the SpawnNewWindow “iPad mode” (a checkbox as far as I remember) just for those that like to plan their tours by iPad lying on the sofa.

If the gallery is just images I’d give showcase a go - easy to adjust and implement.

And still a cool thing for a combo of image and text is Carousel. Perfectly for keeping things together on one place.

The current behavior of SNW is quick described:

My wife surfing your page (without blaming her  is leaving me with a browser opened some dozen windows - better to restart Safari, rather than closing them by hand - perhaps.

Well - your page has a cool theme and stunning images. I’d be happy to have them making my projects - use em.

Cheers

Thanks — I am actually using SNW with the iPad mode which does force you to close the lightbox before moving on… Multiple open windows was a concern of mine with the current site, so I will plow on with the re-write…

Appreciate the kind words about the images… If there are any that tickle your fancy, I would be happy to send you a print…
