Displaying units in fractions

Many moons ago I tried using Intaglio but gave up on it due to the frustration when it came to displaying things in fractions such as 1/8, 1/4, 1/2 etc. Maybe it has been resolved so please point me in the right direction if that is the case.
When drawing a line or using any of the other tools that draw objects it would be nice to just watch a display window that shows the object’s dimension with the fractions. ie. 8 ft 3 1/2 inches would be displayed as 8’ 3 1/2" as you moved the cursor.
Is the above possible today??? If so, how?

Thanks, Ray

I´m living in the metric world.
When I got it it right I´d say it´s already there:

The metric world is fine for a lot of things here in the States but when it comes to lumber etc we have rulers that have 16 lines drawn on them. Each one = 1/16 of an inch. Translating 1.736" into 1 3/4" (close) is not something hairy home owner is going to be able to do if he isn’t good at math. So when he takes his drawing out in the work shop and grabs his metal tape that has those little 16 marks which one does he choose to make his mark on a piece of lumber? Now if he was using a lathe then yes he wants 1.736 but not for lumber. Again, it is so simple to just set the measurements in Clair Draw to display the fractions that one would think Intaglio would do the same. Of course the code was written outside the US… oh well, thanks anyhow. It’s still an excellent program for the money!!! Just needs some minor nudges here and there…

Thank you Frank.

Cheers, Ray

I recall reading in the manual that the geometry panel could not display fractions. I took that to acknowledge that the developer knew it was an issue. Amazingly however, dimension lines can display fractions by setting an option. You even have a choice of the resolution that is shows, 1/16, 1/32, 1/64 etc. So a kludgy way to get fractions displayed is to to group a dimension line with the span that you are interested in and as you change the drawing, the dimensions change but in fractions. And it’s right on the drawing rather than over to the side. That said I would still prefer a fractions option in the geometry panel. Best of all would be both a fractional geometry panel and a magical set of dimension lines that shows up on the drawing as you create or modify and then disappears when you release but leaves the results in the geometry panel.

I agree Bill. That would be neat! ClarisDraw will even limit the object lengths in the increment that you set. Thus if you set it for 1/4 inch then your lines/objects are drawn in 1/4 inch increments. That makes it so easy to create an object but again it’s not the metric world… grrrr
When I want to draw something up for the wood shop I just fire up my old eMac, start up Claris and go at it. Done in no time. Trying to do that using Intaglio is so frustrating I give up trying.

Ah - I see now. Sorry for the confusion.

At least Intaglio can display all kind of fractions set in “Layout->Dimensions”
Hope this helps:

BTW: speaking as a woodworker I highly recommend SketchUp for this:

I’m starting to use it more as I learn it’s quirks. Sure can’t beat the price but I don’t think it will ever do everything Intaglio does in the 2D world.

Thanks everyone, I’ll just continue using the old ClarisDraw until the eMac dies. Just too many hoops to jump through using Intaglio.
