Distorted text

Can any of you helpful folk tell me why the heading on this page has mysteriously stretched itself (viewing in Safari and Firefox)? And, more importantly, how to fix it (I’ve tried recreating it from scratch but that didn’t help)?

http://www.seaphotography.co.uk/newsarchive.html

It should read ‘news archive’ and match the other page headings in style.

TIA

Jackie,
Might be good to create a new graphic box and import the image again,
then select ‘Fit box to content’ from the ‘Edit’ menu. It looks like
the graphic box was wider than the image and then you maybe selected
‘Graphic > Scale to Box’.

Hi Mike,

Thank you for your suggestion, however, it’s not a graphic box containing an image, it’s GIF text that appears in FW as a grey outlined box inside the blue-outlined text box.

Is it possible that you have a style attached to the text or the containing Div that is causing this.

David beat me to it. You have your “bodycopy” style applied to the graphic text box, but since this is not styleable text it is making a hash of things.

Jackie

Is it possible what you’re seeing is simply the combination of letters
and the features of the font you’ve chosen?

D & C – Well spotted. I have removed the accidental ‘bodycopy’ style and applied ‘heading’, but it’s still not looking right to me (it’s OK in preview).

R - I don’t think the problem is the letters/font as the headings on the other pages are OK, and this page used to be OK too.

(Graphic text is a better term; these things don’t have to be
generated as GIFs.)

It would appear to be a graphic text item that’s being shown in a
space that’s larger than the bitmap image really is. This is
something that Freeway simply shouldn’t do, so I’m a trifle curious
as to how you’ve made this page.

Could you try renaming the graphic item in Freeway (use the Inspector
palette) and uploading this again?

The news image is actually 73 x 15 while Freeway code is displaying it
at 202 x 21. I just did a test in Freeway and cannot seem to make
Freeway actually stretch out the image like this. If you do not get to
the bottom of it I don’t mind taking a look at your FW site file.

Apologies. I was looking at the wrong place. Perhaps a senior moment?

“Resources/item4i.gif” border=0 width=202 height=21 alt=“news archive”>

I’m sure between Support and Keith, the answer is nigh.

K: I can’t use the Inspector palette to rename it as it’s not a graphic item; it’s text I typed in and then styled as GIF. (That’s what I did on the other pages too, and on this page which has been fine every other time I’ve edited it and re-uploaded it.)

I’ve moved the inline item in case that’s what was throwing it out, but no joy.

Fixed. I sent a copy of the offending FW page to Mike B. It worked OK for him, so I copied that version, replaced my version and it worked for me too.

Not sure why or how that made a difference, but I’m not complaining.

Thank you all, especially Mike B and Heather for their off-list help.

Basically… I am sure that the ‘news’ gif image text of ‘news’ was
entered at some stage and then changed to ‘news archive’ after the
original upload, as the site is uploaded using an ftp client and not
Freeway the newer ‘news archive’ image was not uploaded to the server
and so the older ‘news’ image was being loaded into the image src
width of 202 and so was stretched. Using Freeway to uploading the site
then replaced the outdated image with the newer ‘news archive’ image
(item4i.gif) and so corrected the issue.
