I’d like to duplicate the WebSite folder that contains the site I’m working on, change the necessary folder and file names so that I can then open the name-changed folder and files using the Open… command in FW so that I can do a lot of experimentation with the site design.
Is this possible to do, and if so, what names do I change throughout the folder?
The first thing to do is to use File / Save As to create a copy of
your Freeway document. (Freeway doesn’t read or even understand the
published HTML files – they are an artifact of the publish process,
and matter as much to Freeway as the sheets of paper that come out of
your printer do to QuarkXPress.)
Then open the File / Document Setup dialog, and choose a new Site
Folder where you will publish this version of the site. I don’t think
there’s a step 3. The new version will publish into a separate folder
from your original on your local disk, so they won’t step on each
other unless you upload to the server. To avoid that, set the new
version to upload into a different site root – either a separate
subdomain, like test.example.com, or a sub-folder of the original
domain, like example.com/test

You could easily go to “File > Save To Archive” choose a destination for the duplicate file to be placed into and then click OK. This will duplicate your fw file and then move any files over that are currently used in the existing site to a new ‘Media’ folder and it will also create a new “Site Folder” which is then connected automatically in the new duplicated FW file. Then you’ll have a fresh document, all of your used Media, and a new site folder to publish into.
