e-commerce site

Hello folks,
I’m just about to set up my first site, and deciding about upgrading from
FW5.0 to 5.5, mainly, from what I can see thus far, because of the relative
ease of setting up a site where the Shopping Cart function is easier to set
up with the PayPal buttons etc.
While I’m trying to make up my mind I thought it worthwhile to ask you folk
out there if you have some sites that you’ve created for clients with such
a function as a Shopping Cart, where I can see the site that you made, and
how easily that works, and what process you used to make it, and whether
you have any recommendations as to which might be the best way to go to
make the setting up of such a site and its Shopping Cart relatively
sweat-free for someone, like me, who is a novice to this sort of thing.
Phew!
Thanks,
Mark.

The first thing you have to consider is what your cart requirements actually are.

Once you are sure what you need it to do ie how many items, does it have to be client updatable, will there be downloads for sale, stock management etc. etc. - then you move onto the next step - Cart selection.

If a few PP buttons are all you need then jump right in - but why go to 5.5 when 6 is here?

If not then you may be looking at a 3rd party cart solution and integration will depend on which cart you go for.

So give us a bit more info and we can help you on your way.

Does FWP 6 have a built-in shopping cart feature?

Hi Dave,
Thanks for your reply. As for the cart requirements they’d be pretty simple
inasmuch as I’d be selling items at a fixed price either singly or in
bundled quantities, both at fixed prices, and most likely a fixed price for
postage as well, interstate or overseas. I have a PayPal merchant account
so I’d like to click the punters through to that, and hopefully, if they
want to use their credit cards instead of a their own PayPal account, then
PayPal will deal with that issue as well.
Any idea what FW6 is offering that might make this whole process even
easier, and the upgrade even more irrestible?
Thanks again,
Mark.

FW6 I dont think has added anything specific to enhance the Cart options.

If you are wanting to go direct to PP then the PP button/action set should be adequate for your needs - but not any different to 5.5

Upgrade from 5 Pro to 6 Pro is $110 but I am not sure of the cost to upgrade to 5.5

You are going to future proof yourself better by going to FW6 - so if only for that reason buy 6

But whichever version you go for there are always folk here willing to help you out if you get stuck.
