We are starting to look into blogging to go along with a future web site. I’m starting to do a little research now, since I know practically nothing about it!
I’m not sure if it needs to be part of the site or a link off from the site. What is the easiest way to set up a blog? And, if I need to tie it into the web site, what is the easiest way to tie in a blog with a Freeway site?
Freeway offers Blogger template options. You can build your own blog with another CMS such as WebYep (with Max’s Actions) and Expression Engine (with Actions from Joe Muscara). I would say that Blogger is the easiest to do. The actions are already included and you don’t have to buy the CMS (content management system) or pay for some pricey action set.
You can link between the two sites and if you design them right you can have it so it’s hard to tell the transition.
We have a number of blogs, these are very easy “to one click install” into our hosting, straight into a directory (and even make that directory a subdomain - blog.mydomain.com). A Wordpress blog being the most popular. A couple of benefits of this is good selection of Wordpress templates to just pick, and your off, and also the blog is under the same domain name, if that’s an issue using a blogger URL and the Freeway route. The drawback, you’re not using Freeway, but you can easily link it from your freeway site, to the blog and back again.

Both options involve some messing about to set up, but not as difficult as is might first seem. Looks at Dan’s blog using the Freeway Blog action - I believe there is a Freeway template you can download there.
Or go the WordPress site http://wordpress.org/ - we of course meet the WordPress hosting requirements

There are two different ‘easiest’ ways.
Both use Blogger to set up a blog.
The first, and actually the really easiest, involves picking a
template that looks acceptable. Then just make a link from your site
to the blog. Job done.
The second easiest way helps you make it look like it really is part
of your site. This involves using the Blogger action that’s bundled
with Freeway 5. Draw out Blogger boxes, set them up as described in
Softpress’s online documentation, then copy the code (by clicking the
button in the Actions palette) and paste into the Edit HTML field in
your Blogger web page control panel. Upload your actual site so the
Blogger template you just made can reference your graphics. Job done.
That’s how I made http://magsandbooks.blogspot.com/ - but I’m afraid
for the next few days you can’t access the ma-publishing.com site
without a password. So you also won’t see any graphics that are
stored there in the above Blogger blog page. It should be live in a
few days. I’ll let y’all know.
If you don’t use Wordpress or Blogger, the other option is to use the iFrames option and add an RSS feed. I use Typepad, a fee based service that I chose for the extra options they provide.
