EE categories

Hi

I need to have an area on my client (education) site where students can see the homework they have been set similar to this http://www.thomasaveling.co.uk/homework/online/

I guess I need to start thinking about categories, which I kinda understand from an EE perspective but I’m getting confused from a EE tag point of view.

Can anyone point me to a good reference or help with some pointers?

Thanks for reading.

Here’s my/our first attempt.

http://www.stroodacademy.org/index.php/homework/yr7homework/

There’s no CSS yet but We are failing on;

  1. Can’t get the category name to show.
  2. Need each entry to be separate.

Then once we have this I’d like to create a index of about 8 categories/faculties that the student can click to get a sorted by category list of all current homework for that category/faculty.

Possible?

Thanks again.

Hi Ben,

I’m not sure what the problem is or exactly what you’re trying to do, but…

Don’t you just need to show the categories for each entry? If so, scroll down to “categories” on this page.

Hi Joe,

The (my) problem keeps changing!

I keep getting a light bulb moment then quickly on to the next stumbling block.

Right now my site is here:

If you click Year 7, EE supplies a list of subjects that have current homework set - cool!

Then if you click one of those subjects you get a list of the projects and the class that should be doing it.

BUT I cant seem to get FW + EE to the point where at the top of each subject list to dynamically display both the year group (weblog name) and subject (category name).

I think the problem is with what I;m doing in FW with tags???

Rgs,

Ben

Wait, what? Have you gotten this? Because it looks like you have to me, unless I’m missing something.

The overall design of the site looks good so far. My only critique might be the colors of the links aren’t typical link colors nor generally look like links so some might not know to click on them.

Yes, I think the light bulb is on.!!!

We need to add some design elements, navigation and CSS but critique away, it’s our first FW/EE site.

We need to go back and look at the CSS site wide now we don’t have technical issues taking over!

Client is loving the functionality though…

Cheers guys.
