Email

I’m looking to get a personal email. I currently have 4 work email addresses, but would rather start using a personal one for all the personal/private accounts I use online (blogs etc.)

What services do others use and recommend? (.me, gmail, yahoo etc.)

I’ve been a Gmail user since it came out, and have found it terrific, and it keeps getting better. Like you intend to, I use it for lists and forums, although I wouldn’t mind if it was my primary email, it’s that good.

best wishes,

Buy your own domain name but set your preferred email address(es) - e.g.
email@hidden - to forward to a Gmail account. Then download email
from the Gmail account into your preferred desktop email client. That way
you use your own domain name but have Gmail as an online backup accessible
from anywhere and all your email goes through Gmail’s excellent spam filter.

I second the vote for Gmail. I was an early beta tester for it and have quite a few addresses with them.

I actually like my mac / me accounts.

I have not been impressed with Gmail. I have sent links to uploaded files to people and gmail has not aloud them to open - says its spam.

I know many people that do like gmail but its not for me. I find its like yahoo mail - spammy.

One of the benefits of using your own domain name is that you can use it
with Gmail or Yahoo or none, etc. and if you’re not happy switch to another
set-up without having to change your email address. Using Gmail, for
instance, (as I do) doesn’t mean having to use a Gmail address.

Personally I use my own domain/email address - that way I have influence over Spam control, white and black listing via BoxTrapper, Spam Assassin etc.

I do have Gmail, mobile me etc. but don’t feel in control of them! And I don’t advertise that I have them.
