Enable PHP 5

I’ve used the Entropy instructions in the past to install php but I wanted to enable the default OS X install by uncommenting the Apache httpd.config file instead,

#LoadModule php5_module libexec/apache2/libphp5.so

Is there any reason why I shouldn’t do it this way?

Todd

Not any more. (You’re on Leopard, right?) There was a time when the
Apple version was creaky-old, but it is now quite modern – 5.2.6,
IIRC. Where you will want to use the Entropy setup is if you want any
of the cool modules, like being able to make and modify PDF or XML,
use GD beyond the basics, etc.

So if I enable the default Leopard install now but at some later time
want to use the Entropy install (to get the modules) should I comment
out the default OS X install before installing with Entropy?

Yes, there’s a fair amount of stuff you have to do, it’s pretty well
documented on the Entropy discussion boards. Marc hasn’t updated the
“official” page to include a Leopard installer, but there is a Beta
version floating around his message board.

My concern was if I could safely enable/disable the default Leopard
package as I choose. Maybe I’ll just use Entropy again and forget
about enabling the default OS X package.
